Code Enforcement Officer/Construction Inspector

POSITION SUMMARY

The Code Enforcement Officer / Construction Inspector, under the direct supervision of the Public Works Director, is responsible for ensuring compliance with Town codes, ordinances, and construction standards. This position performs construction inspections, conducts code enforcement activities, and maintains detailed inspection records and reports. Responsibilities include site inspections for public and private infrastructure, property checks related to code violations and condemnation, and review of residential and commercial installations such as culverts, driveways, roadways, and wastewater system connections. The position also conducts utility line locates, performs assorted fieldwork, assists in building maintenance and provides technical support to other Town departments as needed.

  5. Reviews site plans, providing comments and recommending modifications related to infrastructure needs and new construction.
  6. Operates survey equipment, records survey data, and interprets information to establish and verify lines and grades.
  7. Reads, interprets, and updates record drawings for use by Public Works crews.
  8. Reviews plans and specifications for infrastructure construction projects.
  9. Applies advanced mathematical skills to calculate grades, volumes, and areas.
  10. Communicates effectively—verbally, in writing, and non-verbally—in a manner that accurately reflects Town Codes, ordinances, building standards, and core values.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Experience / Certifications • High School Diploma or GED required. • Experience in construction installation involving roads, culverts, and utility lines, parking lots, trees/landscaping, and public park facilities including maintenance and/or a combination of these areas. • Must have a Class I Wastewater Collection Operator license issued by the TCEQ or obtain certification within six (6) months of hire and have or obtain a Class II license issued by TCEQ within an additional 24 months. • Must be a licensed Code Enforcement Officer with the State of Texas or obtain certification within six (6) months of hire. • Possession of a valid Texas Class C driver’s license, commercial license preferred. • Any combination of preferred or equivalent experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential duties of the position may be considered.
