The Texas Chapter remains committed to serving the public works professional. To that end, some of important annual initiatives of the Texas Chapter are:

  • Texas Public WorkShop (February) – Two-day educational program designed to provide up-to-date valued training for the public works field service personnel
  • Texas Annual Public Works Annual Conference and Equipment Show (June) – Two-day educational and networking program designed to provide valued education for the public works supervisor, public works director, and all interested in furthering public works knowledge. An equipment show with 80-90 exhibitors is held in conjunction with the event.
  • Public Works Institute of Texas (PWITX) – The Public Works Institute of Texas (PWITX) continues an award winning tradition of providing members of the Texas Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) with the highest quality in educational and professional development opportunities.
  • Professional Recognition Program – The Texas Chapter fully participates in the revered national APWA Awards program. Additionally, the Texas Chapter and many Branches have highly regarded Award Programs. Each year the Texas Chapter hosts two rounds of awards and information on both programs are located on the Texas Chapter web site
  • The Field Service Award Program
  • The Annual Awards Program
  • Vibrant Scholarship Program – The Texas Chapter and Branches annually make funds available for higher education and professional development scholarships. Information and applications for Texas Chapter and Branch scholarships are located on the web site.
  • Public Celebration of National Public Works Week – The Texas Chapter and many of the Branches host public works week programs. The Texas Chapter bi-annually hosts a barbeque on the lawn of the capitol during PWW.
  • Participant Magazine – This quarterly magazine promotes the public works profession in the State of Texas
  • National PACE Program – The Texas Chapter and Branches have received the President’s Award for Chapter Excellence for 16 years. This is a designation from national APWA which annually acknowledges the contribution of thousands of volunteer hours that enhance the public works profession.
