Residential – Solid Waste Supervisor
Job Description
Under general supervision, the Residential Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the Residential Department of Public Works. The position is responsible for the supervision and direction of department operations, personnel, payroll, daily reports, performance measures, route planning and logistics, and ensuring fleet readiness. Employee works under the direction of the Solid Waste Division Manager and has daily contact with the public which requires tact, courtesy and diplomacy. Employee serves as the safety officer for the department and is required to perform other duties as required and abide by all safety rules and operational policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs supervisory and administrative duties with full responsibility of department activities.
- Plans, develops, and conducts safety training programs and ensures all safety rules and regulations are followed.
- Completes daily reports such as payroll and accidents/injury reports.
- Maintains a record of the equipment operations and corrective action reports.
- Coordinates, evaluates, and adjusts routes to ensure solid waste collection routes are completed safely and efficiently.
- Inspects, maintains, and coordinates vehicle maintenance and repairs to ensure fleet readiness and compliance with TxDOT regulations.
- Performs route audits and analyses.
- Coordinates cart and/or container inspection, maintenance, repairs, and deliveries to residents and businesses.
- Responds to citizen’s complaints and inquiries regarding solid waste services in a professional manner using courtesy, tact and diplomacy.
- Coordinates tasks and projects with crew leader, supervisors, and managers.
- Develops and monitors performance measures and administers asset management techniques for inventory.
- Performs other related duties as needed or required.
- Works various work schedules as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- This position requires an accredited high school diploma or GED equivalent. A minimum of one (1) year of college or technical training in a related specialized field is preferred.
- Job requires a minimum of two (2) years of work experience in the field of solid waste management or related field.
- Job requires broad management skills and work experience.
- Job requires a valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Air Brake endorsement.
- This position requires solid-waste heavy equipment experience and employee must be knowledgeable of all pertinent TxDOT rules and regulations and City ordinances addressing solid waste management.
- Must be able to communicate effectively, at all levels, both orally and in writing; bilingual preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Employee generally works in satisfactory work environments with occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.
- Job regularly requires outside work and occasional exposure to extreme heat and cold weather conditions.
Additional Information
- This position contains supervisory responsibilities.
- This is a Safety Sensitive position subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
- Must be able to work during emergency situations (i.e. storm, hurricane, ). weekends, holidays, special events, etc.
