The Texas Chapter of the American Public Works Association (TX-APWA) is seeking a qualified Financial Administrator to provide accounting and financial administration services for the Chapter and its branches.

The Financial Administrator works closely with the Chapter Treasurer, Chapter Administrator, Executive Committee, Branch Treasurers, and APWA National to maintain accurate financial records, prepare regular financial reports, support budgeting and annual reporting, and help ensure consistent financial practices throughout the organization. This opportunity is well suited for an experienced accounting or bookkeeping professional who is highly organized and comfortable working independently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain Chapter and Branch accounting records in QuickBooks and reconcile bank, credit-card, event registration, asset, and other financial transactions.
  • Maintain organized electronic financial records and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare monthly Treasurer’s reports, bank reconciliations, budget updates, and other financial reports for Chapter leadership.
  • Coordinate necessary transfers between Chapter and Branch accounts, including preparation of transfer reports and coordination of required approvals.
  • Develop the proposed annual Chapter budget and prepare the Year-End Financial Reporting Package.
  • Coordinate collection of required W-9 information and prepare annual 1099 reporting information.
  • Prepare event profit-and-loss reports in coordination with the Chapter Administrator.
  • Review Chapter and Branch financial policies and procedures and recommend financial-management best practices.
  • Provide financial guidance and training to the Chapter Treasurer, Branch Treasurers, and incoming Chapter Officers.
Qualifications
  • Experience with bookkeeping and financial administration.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with bank and credit-card reconciliations, budgeting, financial reporting, and account coding.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with volunteer leaders with varying levels of financial experience.
Position & Compensation

This position will be structured as an independent contractor providing services to TX-APWA. The work is primarily remote, and the Financial Administrator generally determines their own work schedule while meeting required reporting and financial deadlines. Attendance at certain meetings or events may occasionally be required.

Compensation for this position is $20,000 – $24,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications, for an anticipated workload of approximately 300 hours per year.
